More than 211 million people worldwide suffer from excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis.
These people suffer every day from the embarrassing and often disabling symptoms associated with overactive sweat glands.
There are several treatment options for hyperhidrosis, although each has its consequences and disadvantages. Antiperspirants are usually not effective in treating the level of sweat that causes hyperhidrosis. Neurotoxins, such as Botox, can be injected into the axillary region with moderate effectiveness.
However, these treatments are painful and it is difficult to cover the entire target area with them.
Additionally, injections need to be performed every few months to maintain results. Although surgery, such as sympathectomy, offers effective and permanent results, it is an invasive procedure that is not without risks and often causes compensatory sweating in other areas of the body and the patient has to spend time recovering.
